Pinot Grigio DOC mantains its momentum
The Pinot Grigio delle Venezie Doc continues to make progress in 2023, and it's good news all around. In the first half of the year, there's been a solid 10% increase in bottling compared to the same period in the previous year. June, in particular, stood out as the best-performing month in a half-year period. Bottling of Pinot Grigio Doc in June 2022 was 38% higher, totaling an impressive 898,951 hectoliters since the year began. Notably, foreign bottlers, especially from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany, have embraced our wine, taking over 100,000 hectoliters into their care, with 22,621 hectoliters in June alone. Certifications have also shown a reassuring 4% increase from January to June, suggesting continued growth in the months ahead. We're already looking forward to fostering synergy in the Triveneto region for the 2023 harvest.
Our interregional Doc that unites the players in the Pinot Grigio delle Venezie production chain from Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Trentino, and Veneto is gaining momentum. Barring any unexpected shifts from other denominations, we're anticipating a smooth transition into the next year, which will substantially bolster our availability. Albino Armani, President of the Consortium for Protection, is pleased to share his thoughts on the performance in the first half of 2023: "Our Doc is undeniably a valuable asset for all companies and producers, offering international recognition, quality, and, most importantly, a guarantee of system stability for the viticulture industry in the Northeast."
Every day, we observe the growing recognition of the Denomination of Venezie, thanks to the dedication of our domestic and international bottlers and the trust of national and international operators. They continue to invest in the intrinsic values of our territory, certification, and traceability, defining our Pinot Grigio Doc. Let's not forget the significance of large-scale distribution and the global consumer's choice, appreciating our product for its versatility and simplicity, setting it apart from other global varieties. Behind the scenes, our Consortium and Board of Directors remain diligent in their constant monitoring and management. We've approved the reclassification of stored products from the 2022 production season, a measure aimed at bolstering the economic value of the Doc. Our stable trend in value, as reflected in Chamber of Commerce price lists over the past two years, is a testament to our sustained success.
Looking ahead, it's imperative for the Pinot Grigio delle Venezie Doc to continue collaborating with other denominations in Triveneto to plan our availability strategically. Our dialogue, moderated by the Consortium delle Venezie, along with other territorial Consortia, aims to maintain a high standard of quality and ensure system balance through common supply management strategies. We have a customary pre-harvest meeting scheduled for the end of July with the main Pinot Grigio DOC denominations in the Northeast.
Lastly, the adoption of measures related to the upcoming 2023 production season by the three administrations is in progress. This includes the confirmation of yield management per hectare and administrative storage, resulting in a maximum permitted production of 160 q/ha with 30 q/ha stored, excluding organic products and sustainable Sqnpi productions, which may offer diversified management options upon their release. We are excited about the promising year ahead.
